Large black single brow-horned, undead, steed with massive bat-like wings and electric blue eyes. Mane and tail are long and curly, hooves are cloven. Can communicate telepathically with its master in Esurian, Malaen, or Ardaanian (the tongue of men). These steeds are summoned out of the great forest of Nazadun (nahz-ah-dUn) in the dead realm by a little known incantation using a rare rune-ring. These legendary undead animals are so grateful to leave the land of the dead that they are completely loyal to those who summon them. They browse like deer eating many plants that are poisonous to most. Morgehr heal, and are strengthened by returning to the dead realms and Nazadun. They retreat to the fringes of the dead realm when their master dismounts them to return when summoned again. The same steed will come to its master's call until it is destroyed. The secret of summoning these steeds is known only among the living by the Pentacles vampires Black Horse Clan and is guarded carefully. Their knowledge is only shared as a sacred trust between their king, queen, rangers and warlords.

Information

These vampires are very unique and command uniquely select, limited powers. These vampires are noble by nature, although they seldom get involved in anything going on outside of their own Kingdom. Their individuality does produce exceptions nevertheless, and they can be any alignment, and of any disposition. They are immortal and stop aging between 26-40 years. They have massive, gray, grey-black, or brown bat-like wings that are not retractable. They have clawed hands and heavily clawed, hoof-like feet, large, bat-like ears, bestial faces, and slit pupil eyes. Their flesh is white, brown, or a light golden brown, and their eye color varies widely, and comes in unusual shades, while their hair also varies according to their clans. There are thirteen clans in all, the most ancient of them the pentacles clan.

These vampires can sire, but very rarely do so, and unlike most vampires, they can produce children out of their own kind. Mated pairs must be at least two-hundred years old to be able to have children, and are fertile for only sixty years. The female members of their clan take no Surnames until they are married, and introduce themselves also by their clan name until they wed. These vampires have strict laws about killing their blood prey. It is strictly forbidden, by penalty of death, to kill sentient creatures they drain blood from. Some of these vampires even raise domestic animals, or have familiars, to drink the blood of. Their saliva is numbing and their bite is painless unless they cause a severe wound. Pentacles vampires protect their own fiercely, and even a law breaker will be protected by their own kind, to be tried by their own kind in their own Court.

Pentacles Priesthood

These vampires are worshippers of chaos, dragons, and dragon gods. They have an innate respect and kinship to dragons and not only speak their language but know how to behave around the various dragon races, including when it is best to avoid a dragon. They can not only understand Griddaen, but write in dragon runes, and are the only race outside of Acheron with this knowledge. They can use these runes and their power to protect dragons from slayers. If they fear dragons it is only out of a healthy respect. Dragons in turn respect and admire these vampires for honoring them, and it is well known among the dragon races that pentacles vampires are friends to them. Dragon priests have the power to summon dragons, heal dragons, protect dragons, and to share power with dragons as well as receive power from dragons. These techniques are ancient and passed down from the arch legendary priests to other legendary priests within the clans. The priests are also the clan's mentors and teachers and are well learned in the path and theories of chaos.
